Why are we making cancer cells self destruct? Well, normally when a cell develops a fault it’s able to self-destruct through a process called apoptosis. White blood cells then hoover up the bits left over and another healthy cell may divide to replace the dead one. Cancer starts when a healthy cell becomes damaged and loses the ability to self-destruct, and then it multiplies out of control.
But there is a potential solution. Stand Up To Cancer scientists are developing a particular drug that will help fix the self-destruct button and stop cancer cells from multiplying.
