An American Sign Language professor explains how to be an ally to the Deaf community

Senior Julie Behar (Sargent) entered BU with plans to become a speech pathologist. But her work with the Deaf community made her decide to become an audiologist, instead. The Deaf community has often struggled with audiologists because their perceptions regarding the validity of American Sign Language (ASL) have been so negative. In the latest installment of our video series “Office Hours,” Behar seeks out advice from her former professor, Bruce Bucci, a Wheelock instructor in the Deaf Studies program on how to be the best ally she can for the Deaf community.
