Coronavirus: Ontario premier, education minister outline plan for reopening schools in September

Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce and Premier Doug Ford laid out the plan on Thursday to reopen both elementary and high schools, saying all public elementary schools would be reopening five days a week starting Sept. 8.

Lecce said most high schools will reopen under an adapted model with groups of 15 students to alternate between in-person and online classes, while lower risk high schools can reopen with five-day-a-week in-class learning.

Ford and Lecce also spoke about safety measures that will be in place including Grade 4 to 12 students being required to wear non-medical or cloth masks while in school and encouraging those Grade 3 and younger to wear masks in common spaces. Masks will also be provided to teachers and all school staff.
