Coronavirus outbreak: Trudeau announces Canada-U.S. border closure and economic aid package | LIVE

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the border between Canada and the U.S. will be temporarily closed to non-essential traffic.

Trudeau also announced an economic aid package saying the federal government will spend up to $82 billion on measures to support the Canadian economy through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The money will come through a combination of direct supports for workers and businesses and tax deferrals.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau is expected to speak shortly after PM Trudeau to further discuss the government’s plan to help workers affected by the coronavirus outbreak.
