How To Photograph A Meteor Shower – The 2013 Perseids

For those of you who don’t know, (and for those of you in the Northern Hemisphere) the Perseid meteor shower is coming in one week. Are you ready to photograph some meteors? It is a pretty tricky and elusive photographic subject, so we created this tutorial video to help you out…

Obviously your number one tool is going to be a tripod, that goes without saying! Your shutter speeds are going to be measured in seconds or even minutes.

Aside from that, it is important to pick the right ISO and aperture to maximize your chances of capturing a meteor, while maintaining good image quality and a proper exposure. We recommend a camera and lens combination that can handle ISO 3200 or 6400, plus f/1.4 or f/2. Most current-generation full-frame cameras can handle this no problem, and even some of the latest crop-sensor cameras too! Then, a specialty lens such as the Rokinon 24mm f/1.4, or the new Rokinon 16mm f/2 (for APS-C crop sensors only) will give you a wide and fast view of the night sky…
