http://www.autobytel.com/bmw/x3/2013/xdrive28i/?id=32972 When BMW created the X3 with its xDrive AWD system, they probably did not have serious off-roading in mind. In fact, most BMW X3 owners will probably never put this compact crossover SUV through the paces when the pavement ends. Well road test editor Benjamin Hunting wanted to see just how capable the xDrive28i can be when pushed to the limit.
Let’s have some fun and take this crossover off-roading just to see how much capability the BMW X3 really has. The X3 was really never meant to do anything more than a little light off-roading but so far the X3 has not faltered or gotten stuck. One issue is the ground clearance which is a few inches to low. Built on the 3-Series platform, the BMW X3 with xDrive was intended to replace the station wagon model. This crossover performs very well on the road which is just how BMW intended. The fact that the X3 can survive off-road is an added bonus.
